Halloween 2016

Friday night was our bi-ward trunk or treat at the church.  It was crazy and loads of fun for the kids.

Sadie, Ali and I spend all day long making the monkey suit.  Sadie did all of the machine sewing and did an awesome job.   I was still sewing the ears on by hand by the time the activity started.  It was done just in the nick of time.  Whew! 

Jarom invited his friend ,Travis, from school.

Josiah the Orc.  I had to take a quick picture since masks aren't aloud so he could take it off.  Josiah made all of his costumes including the mask.  

The next day my visiting teacher brought this bouquet over.  We have lots of candy in this house.

I helped in Elijah's class for their party today. It was wild.

We had barely started trick or treating while heading up a hill and Elijah says "I want to trick or treat at the church."  It was apparently too much work to get candy this way.

At this house the kids had to do a trick before they were treated.  They liked this lady.

Muddy field

It has been so wet around here.  This was the field Jarom's team played at on Saturday afternoon.  There were a few mud balls kicked into eyes and there were a few players that didn't want to get dirty.   They tried to tip toe through the mud.  It worked well till one was tripped.  Fun times!  

Halloween prep

The kids have been busy getting their costumes ready for Halloween.  

Josiah's mold for his costume that he made so that he could make his latex mask.  This is an actual mold of his own head plus some clay for shaping the face.  It has been serious business.  Stay tuned for the final results of all costumes.  

We carved all 15 pumpkins last night.  13 of which came out of our own garden.  They are little this year.  

Sadie's jailed up Tiny.  A really little pumpkin inside the other.  

Then we have Mr. Pyro at our house who had to burn his pumpkin up.   Name will be withheld.  

We even got our decorations out tonight on Oct 27.  Better late than never right?  The older kids didn't care that I hadn't thought about décor as of yet (I figured I wouldn't worry about it at this point) but Elijah wanted them out so out they are.  He was so excited about it and wanted more out this morning.  

YW in excellence

Our YW in excellence went really well Tuesday night.  However, their fearless leader didn't get any pictures.  Shame on her!  All of the girls did a great job at presenting their value experiences/projects.  Sadie invited a couple of her friends from school to do the musical number with her.  They had a quintet including the piano (do you call it that then?) and played "love at home".  It was nerve racking and very exciting to see it come together.  I love the YW program and certainly love all of these young ladies we get to work with each week.  

Crossing Guard

4th grade is a big deal because the school lets you have big jobs like being a crossing guard.  What a handsome crossing guard.  

Bee fail

Our bees took a turn for the worse.  Nathan found one bee in Jarom's hive last week and removed the hive.  A few days later Josiah's was pretty much the same.  We did end up with a quart of honey.  It is the most expensive honey ever but it sure tastes good.  We are bummed and aren't sure what happened.

When the boys installed the bees this frame was put in the wrong place on accident.  It is amazing how those bees build it up themselves on the bottom part.  

We hadn't purchased or made an extractor yet so Nathan got what honey there was on the frames his way.

Bees are amazing creatures we are just sad they had to ditch their hives.  

Sticks

Why do boys like sticks?  I took a picture because on this particular day I ran into one of these every step I took it seemed.  I hate sticks but I guess I will tolerate them if they get put away.  

Middle school binders

Okay I had to take a picture of this.  Sadie packs these two binders around every day.  7 inches of binder stuff.  The top one is math and the blue one is ELA, History, French, Science.  They can't carry them in their backpacks either.

Socks

Are we the only family who has a gazillion unmatched socks in the clean clothes basket?  The ones hanging on the side are all Sadie's.  Not to point her out but 20 single socks wins the prize this week.  

Serious cello players

Josiah plays cello in orchestra this year so he made these cool cello players out of Legos.  By the looks of their faces its hard to tell if they enjoy playing. 

Wet soccer games

We have had some wet windy soccer games lately.  I have been getting better pictures of the spectators than our player.  

 You can tell Josiah and Elijah love watching games since they are facing the opposite direction of the field.   However, they do have a sweet set up to not get wet. 

Sadie's umbrella wasn't doing a good job of keeping her dry.

Elijah came out of his tent and wasn't worried about getting wet after that.  He kept kissing our umbrella so I thought this was a great shot.

House elves

House elves are sure handy around here.  Maybe I should have bought ears to make it official a long time ago.   They did lots of house work last weekend.  

Young women basketball

On Tuesdays before mutual these girls get together for basketball practice and Thursday evenings they have games.  They haven't won any games but they sure have fun together.  We have had up to 12 players this year thanks to a few girls who have recruited their friends.  

No shame in sharing the same water bottle among all of them.  Ha ha!
