Sickness strikes

Oct 14 I returned from church not feeling so great.  I went to bed early that night and felt even worse the next day.  I had fevers and then coughing all week long.  I had never felt like this before that I can remember and it lasted way too long.  Nathan went to work a bit late all week long so that I could sleep.  I was thankful he could do that.  I was hopeful that nobody else would get it but Thursday rolled around and Jarom came home from school feeling tired and chilled.  Josiah was so tired.  I kept both of them home on Friday.  After school on Friday Sadie promptly went to sleep for 4 hours.   She didn't feel any better when she woke up.  I still wasn't feeling very good but was somehow was able to get some applesauce canned (I had had the apples for two weeks already).

Jarom was out on being able to go on the scout camp out that weekend.  He was bummed but there was no way he could go.   Josiah went as he seemed to be feeling better.  Upon Nathan's and Josiah's return from camping on Saturday Josiah was much worse.  He shouldn't have gone.  On Sunday we sent Nathan and Elijah to church on their own while the rest of us stayed home keeping track of temperatures and dosing off.  By Monday I felt better but not super.  Sadie, Josiah and Jarom stayed home from school all week long being miserable and watching movies.  Nathan got a sore throat and Elijah stayed home one day because he threw up but otherwise some how those two didn't get bronchitis like the rest of us.  On Saturday we poured concrete (read on another post about this).   Sunday we took Josiah in to the doctor because he was so lethargic.  His bronchitis turned to pneumonia.   Sadie felt okay enough to go to school on Monday.   I kept Jarom home one more day.  Josiah ended up missing two full weeks of school.  So starting Oct 14 to Nov 4 we were in bad shape around here.  We still have some coughs going but nothing like what we did have.  I guess it was our turn since we haven't been sick in a few years.  This means that we can go another few years right?

Apples

What to do with some apples when you have lots and lots of them.  Put caramel on them of course.

listening to conference

I took a few pictures of the boys "listening" to conference.  We had an extra boy at our house for the day which didn't help with the listening skills.   They moved around a lot.

Canning finally done

Well this fall we started with 313 quarts and 68 pints of canned food.  The last 48 quarts of applesauce was finally done on a day after a long week of feeling so sick.  It wasn't easy to do.  I usually don't let us break into any of this till the end of October but I had to give in once the kids got the bug I had.  It is so cool to see all of this done and looking so good.  I am grateful for a mother who helped me know how to do all of this.  It really isn't cheaper anymore to can but it sure beats buying that nasty stuff at the store.

Track and cross country

Well track season went well until Jarom sprained his ankle.  He was only able to participate in the last meet.  He did a great job.   Josiah did well with high jump and shot.  Neither was super excited about being involved and kept reminding me that I made them do track.   "Kind of " was always my response.  I strongly encouraged it and convinced them they should.   Jarom did end up liking the running events.

Sadie enjoyed cross country.  There was a great group of kids participating which made a big difference for her.

A Sprained ankle

Jarom was at school when he was accidentally tripped and fell into a chair.  He ended up with a sprained ankle out of it.  Instead of buying crutches Nathan made him a cool pair.  I was impressed and they were the best ones ever I think.  They lasted as long as they needed to and then somehow one of them broke in half.  Jarom used them for a little over a week.  He is back to normal and running around like nothing every happened.

The neighbor boy

Elijah has a really good neighbor friend.  He comes over whenever he gets the chance.  I love it when other kids enjoy being here.

The Betta and The fish tank

We have had these big jars like forever and really haven't done anything with them except put change in one.  Well while Josiah was here...
